I first noticed my skin changing in 2008. I saw two small brown melasma spots just under my eyes. At first I didn't know what it was or how long it had been there. I felt curious and concerned. They weren’t growing. But they were there.
“I think you have dirt on your forehead,” said my boyfriend. We were traveling in Thailand for my birthday. I had a giant gray circle the size of a silver dollar right between my eyebrows.
It was 2012, a new spot had appeared.
After that, well, that’s a long story.. but that’s when my journey started.
Fast forward to today. The melasma is 75% cleared. I know that when this journey is over, it will be gone for good - never to return.
One thing I do know is, I could have easily fixed the tiny spots with the knowledge I have today - I never would have had the experience of melasma covering my entire face. I could have prevented it completely.
Whether you’ve already started or are just beginning your journey, I want to help support you with everything I have learned on mine.
I will discuss the causes/functions of melasma, how to get started and what exactly I did to reverse it. I will also go over the do’s and don'ts of beauty, skincare and treatments. Everything from lifestyle to mindset, I will share my struggles and my triumphs so you can see what it takes to reverse it.
Hopefully I can give you tips and tricks to stay sane while we sort out the internal chaos.
This is the, if I could start over a blog, what would I want to know and how would I go about the process. Because I made a lot of mistakes and had huge setbacks that probably cost me a year in reversal.
There is nothing like trying something new and watching the melasma spread like wildfire and realizing what you just did will take you at least 6 months to a year to reverse.
That happened. It was so hard, I cried, I felt hopeless.
Well thank GOD that is OVER!
If I can prevent just one person from having to go through what I went through then I’ve done something good.
Thanks to those who’ve been my biggest champions through the process, the close friends that cheered me on really made the process possible.
I’m here to cheer you on as you embark on a life changing journey.
Please subscribe, like and let’s keep the conversation going. Leave a comment and tell me when you first got melasma or how long you’ve been struggling with it.

Hi
I started getting melasma from August 2019. Initially it was a small lentil size spot on right cheek..then left cheek then nose…and as of now it has spred a lot..on both the cheeks it’s it’s like one coin…
When I was 40 years old I used to see my dull skin..I used to get pimples also.
At 40 only I my thyroid levels were not proper..I m taking medicine for the same…then I started suffering with gallstones problems…and finally I had to remove by gall bladder.
When I was 44 those brown spots appeared on my face.I am under perimenopausal stage also.
So I think… all together..
Thyroid causes low metabolism…it can cause gall bladder problem..and perimenopausal stage.. oestrogen levels imbalance…
Might have caused Melasma..and I m struggling to cure it..
After reading ur blog got a + ve vibe..

Hi Chitra,
Thanks for sharing your story. Yes, the thyroid plays a major role in melasma and affects estrogen, cortisol, and many other systems, everything is connected. I’m so glad you’re here and hopefully, I can help you figure the melasma mystery out.
